Hello, I'm Dick Boer, CEO of Ahold.
Welcome to our online review of 2011.
2011 was a big year for Ahold. We built on the success of our strong local businesses and launched a new strategy to accelerate the growth of our company.

Our new strategy has six pillars: increasing customer loyalty, broadening our offering, expanding our geographic reach, simplicity, responsible retailing, and people performance.

In 2011, we also strengthened the leadership of our company by bringing on board Jeff Carr as our new CFO and James McCann as our new Chief Commercial and Development Officer – a new role within Ahold. And we appointed Sander to head up our European business and Carl to run our operations in the United States.

We also moved into a new country by opening stores in Belgium, and grew our existing operations by acquiring new stores.

And we expanded our online business in the United States by moving into Philadelphia, and further into Manhattan.

Despite the challenging environment, we continued to deliver solid financial results in 2011, with sales of more than €30 billion.

I am pleased with the progress we have made over the past year, thanks to the hard work of everyone at Ahold. I am confident that we have the right strategy to continue providing our customers with greater choice and value, every day.
